Congratulations and thank you, retiring staff members!

This year, eleven staff members are retiring from the McMinnville School District after years of dedicated service. They were honored in a recent ceremony by the School Board. Congratulations to the following staff and best wishes for a happy retirement!

LAN CARPENTER (1982– 2010)

Lan earned her bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Idaho, then completed her credential coursework at both Linfield and WOU. She served as coordinator for the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) Work Experience Program for several summers before being hired as a language arts teacher at McMinnville High School. She taught English from 1982-1985, then became a counselor there. During her tenure, she served as Junior class advisor and department head. In 2008, she was offered the split position of both TAG advocate and counselor.  Lan has served students in McMinnville for 28 years.


Teena Fergus has worked for the district since 1997. She started at Adams Elementary as an LRC assistant. She has been at Wascher Elementary since 2000 where she works as a Title I assistant.


Kathy retired from her high school secretarial position in fall 2009 after serving for 20 years as an attendance and counseling secretary.


Lilo began work at McMinnville in 1999 and retired earlier this year, but has continued to serve the district as a substitute in the food service department since her ‘retirement.’

LUELLA MC KENZIE (2005– 2010)

Luella was hired as a LRC II teacher at McMinnville High School in 2005. Prior to that, she taught special education students for the Yamhill/Willamette Education Service District. During the prior 14 years, she was a substitute teacher in a variety of learning resource rooms and life skills programs in the county. Luella has been serving special needs students and their families for more than 25 years.


Laverne Motta has worked in food service, feeding our kids since 1984. Before that, she worked for the district from 1975 – 1983. That is a total of 34 years.

ELLEN OSBORN  (1997– 2010)

Ellen earned her bachelor's degree from Northern Arizona Univeristy and her master's degree from WOU. Prior to coming to the district, she taught elementary grades in California. She moved to Oregon and substituted for five years before accepting a position as an ESL teacher at Columbus Elementary. She transferred to Duniway after seven years, and taught there for two years before transferring to MHS. Ellen has served students in education for 22 years.


Janie Reynolds has been with the Bear Hugs program since 1993. She was promoted to program coordinator in 2004.

DAN RUSS (2008– 2010)

Dan came to our district two years ago, with a myriad of experience already under his belt. He taught for 23 years in districts such as Crook County, Amity, Silverton, and North Marion. Agriculture Science and Technology, as well as Small Engines, Welding and Fabrication have been his areas of expertise. He has also supervised various FFA and county fair activities, taking students to national competitions.


Kathleen Sill has worked for the district as an education assistant and library assistant since 1974.  She is the district's first 35+ year classified employee.


Pat Dudek has worked for the district as the board and superintendent’s secretary for three years.  Before coming to McMinnville, she worked at Sherwood School District since moving to Oregon in 2001.
