Nutrition Services staff celebrated the completion of two successful audits for two meal programs.

The audits were for the afterschool meal program and the National
School Lunch, Breakfast and districtwide administrative operations.

The audits were spurred on by implementing the Community Eligibility
Program districtwide. The schools chosen for the audit were Buel and
Patton for the administrative review and Buel for the afterschool
review.

I wanted to recognize the hard work of our entire staff because we
were all ready for the review, regardless of where the actual audit was
performed. We wanted it to be held where my staff did not have to cook
and they could be waited on.

Superintendent Russell also recognized food services staff Karin
Nichols and Marilyn Larsen for saving the life of a young lady at Buel
after she let them know she was choking. Karin is the manager and tried
administering the Heimlich with no success. Then she called Marilyn,
another kitchen staff member. Marilyn is a retired ER nurse and jumped
into action to save the girl. Karin said that most students did not even
notice the event because they took care of it in a subtle way. The
student had her back to the rest of the students in the lunch room.
Because of the quick action of these two women, she is fine now.
