In October, students from every school in the district were interviewed and photographed for this  school year’s campaign for the “Promise of Oregon.” The campaign kicks off this week with five students, including Ukiah Halloran-Steiner, a seventh grader at Duniway Middle School.

The “Promise” campaign aims to create public support for K-14 education, to help meet the state’s 40-40-20 goals and lift student achievement and graduation rates. The campaign officially debuted in November 2014, and since then has featured students and programs from across the state. This school year the campaign has a special focus on lifting high school graduation rates.

Elementary students talked about their future plans and aspirations by completing the sentence “I am the Promise of Oregon because…” and secondary students talked about staying on track for graduation.

The campaign is coordinated by the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) and is based on two defining principles: 1) Today’s students are Oregon’s greatest natural resource. 2) We as Oregonians must invest in our public schools so the next generation can reach its potential.
