About 120 middle school students attended the McMinnville School District’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) camp this week.

“We had so many kids sign up this year that we added some additional teachers,” said camp director and McMinnville High School science teacher Andrea Brown. “Every teacher brings something different to their teaching so even some of the sessions we’ve offered in previous years have a new twist this year.

“We had new sessions on scale modeling for ‘tiny houses’ and electric art and paper circuits, as well as some returning favorites like rocketry and game design,” she said.

Other sessions included projects on solar energy, hot-air balloons, astronomy, global positioning systems (GPS) and engineering.

Besides Brown, other teachers working with the camp this week include Dave Larson (GPS and engineering), Suzanne Jensen (hot-air balloons and solar energy), Taghrid Elmeligui (game design), Michele Brantner (electric art and paper circuits and rocketry), Pam Chambers (astronomy), and Audrey Wright (tiny houses).
