Children and youth experiencing homelessness have the right to a free, appropriate public education. The McMinnville School District provides assistance for school-based needs to our families who are homeless.

Being homeless is described as families who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. This includes

  • Sharing the housing of others
  • Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, campgrounds due to lack of adequate alternative accommodations
  • Living in emergency shelters
  • Staying in transitional housing
  • Awaiting permanent foster care placement
  • Living in a public or private place not designed for humans to live
  • Living in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, bus or train stations, etc.
  • Migratory children living in above circumstances

Services provided by MSD include:

  • Free school breakfast and lunch
  • School supplies
  • Clothing
  • Family food boxes
  • Transportation
  • Laundry and shower access

Other services are available at the MSD Family Resource Center.
