Duniway eighth grader Emma Gomes won the State Rotary Speech Competition on May 15 in Pendleton. She represented the McMinnville Rotary Club.The message of her speech was the negative impact of being selfish and
how it affects others. She infused humor and examples to engage her
audience.
The competition is a 4-Way Speech Contest based on the Rotary 4-Way
test. The competition started at both middle schools, and then three
finalists from each school participated at the McMinnville Rotary level.
The winner, Emma, went on to the district competition and won.
The 4-Way test is based on the following questions:
Is it the Truth?
Is it Fair to all concerned?
Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?
