April 25, 2022 Work Session Minutes

• MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF DISTRICT NO. 40
  YAMHILL COUNTY, McMINNVILLE, OREGON

  The Board of Directors of the McMinnville School District met in Work Session on April 25, 2022 virtually via zoom and in person. Chairperson Carson Benner called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  Roll call indicated the following:

  Mr. Jason Bizon
  Ms. Abbie Warmbier

• • NSBA San Diego Conference Board Report Out

  Each Board member reported their takeaways from the NSBA San Diego conference they attended in April.

  • Business/Work Session Meeting Brochure

  Chair Benner would like to have a brochure to hand out at each meeting.  The brochure is in draft format.

  Subcommittee Reports

  Subcommittee reports were given by the board:  

  • Fiscal Subcommittee:  Reported out at the Budget Committee meeting, April 13, 2022.
  • Instructional Improvement Subcommittee:  Dr. Paul Haddeland reported they had a  presentation from Kourtney Ferrua and the leads who are looking at Language Arts textbooks.  They are in the process of adoption. 
  • Policy Subcommittee:  Janis Braich reported they went over the  2nd readings, not much changed from the 1st readings.  They did a bunch of new 1st readings. The weapons policy was tabled until the correct language can be added.  
  • Long Range Planning Subcommittee:  Jason Bizon reported on the work being done at Patton MS.  The ADA issues at the varsity baseball field seating arrangements are being looked at, and the damaged items at the 19th street former warehouse location were disposed of.

• Directors Comments

  Jason Bizon did not have a comment.

  Gerardo Partida says he is excited to be with the kids again in a couple of weeks.

  Larry Vollmer said Weiner Wrap Day was a huge success.  Starla was there with a photographer, they spent a lot of time talking to our food service staff and were impressed with the detail and passion for kids.

  Janis Braich said she had the privilege of helping teach the 4th grade science at Metzger  Park.  They did nature walks and today they found bones.  They think it may be from a small deer or coyote, maybe a bobcat.  It is fun to see the kids outdoors and having fun engaging.

  Abbie Warmbier did not have a comment.

  Dr. Paul Haddeland will forward an article on the social-emotional issues.  He states that getting outside and not on a screen has been shown to be very effective.
