September 26, 2022 Work Session Meeting Minutes

 MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF DISTRICT NO. 40, 
YAMHILL COUNTY, McMINNVILLE, OREGON

  • The Work Session was held September 26, 2022, both in person and via Zoom at the
    McMinnville School District Office, 800 NE Lafayette Ave., McMinnville, OR 97128

    At 6:31 p.m. the Board of Directors of McMinnville School District opened the work session meeting.  The meeting was called to order by Chair Carson Benner.  Roll call indicated the following:

    BOARD MEMBERS:
    Chair Carson Benner
    Dr. Paul Haddeland 
    Mr. Jason Bizon
    Mr. Gerardo Partida
    Ms. Abbie Warmbier

    BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT:
    Ms. Janis Braich 
    Mr. Larry Vollmer

    ADMINISTRATION:
    Debbie Brockett, Superintendent
    Cherice Bowden, Board Secretary

    AUDIENCE:  
    Steffanie Frost, Samantha Nelson, Kourtney Ferrua, Brian Crain, Karina Smith, and Luke Neff.

  • SIP Night Conversation
    Kourtney Ferrua shared a presentation on SIP Night information to the Board. 

    Division 22 Standards Overview
    Steffanie Frost shared a slide presentation on Division 22 Standards and Assurance of Compliance.  She reviewed and shared with the Board what we are out of compliance with, and said we are working on getting all areas in compliance.  She stated that all compliance updates will be presented at the October 10, 2022 Business Board meeting.

    Subcommittee Reports

    Subcommittee reports were given by the board:  

    • Fiscal Subcommittee:  Discussed enrollment.
    • Instructional Improvement Subcommittee: Discussed Curriculum Instruction Assessments CIA website.  Many resources are provided to the elementary school teachers to align curriculum and assessments to standardize it across the District all in one place for easy access.
    • Policy Subcommittee: Reviewed updates and changes on non-resident students.
    • Long Range Planning Subcommittee:  Reviewed updates on future school sites. Discussed the Filbert Orchard, the Willamette workforce grant, and the air quality sensor at the high school stadium.

     

    Directors Comments:
    Abbie Warmbier said she got to meet with principals this week, and she is looking forward to back to school nights.

    Dr. Paul Haddeland said our educators do a good job, and when they don’t have the students it doesn’t work very well.  They should feel good about that, and it is a lot of hard work.

    Upcoming meeting dates:

    • Board Business meeting –  October 10, 2022 and November 24, 2022
    • Work Session meeting –  October 24, 2022 and November 28, 2022

    The session adjourned at 6:59 p.m..
