Students at Grandhaven were treated to a special assembly this week that included musical guest Mariachi Gallos de America.

The band was booked to accompany the choir for a performance of “De Colores,” but they also performed in a Life Skills classroom and during third and fourth grade lunch in the cafeteria; delivered a 30-minute interactive lesson to two first grade classes; and serenaded the students as they entered the assembly.

“Our musical guests went above and beyond what I asked them to do, which was to perform at the assembly” said music teacher Kendra Friar, who prepared students for the vocal performance. “They cheerfully interacted with our students, graciously answered questions and validated comments like, ‘I have a trumpet at home!’”

Friar plans to extend the good will by having students write thank-you notes to the band.
