The construction work made possible by the May 2016 ballot initiative is beginning at the high school as the first phase of proposed work begins. Work at the remainder of district schools will begin in June, as soon as school lets out for the summer, and will be completed by the end of August.
The high school will undergo the biggest expansion and renovation and the work will be completed in phases. The first phase, which begins this month, includes the construction of a new Career Technical Center, cafeteria addition, field house construction, renovation and expansion of Baker Field, and repairs to Wortman Stadium.
This summer’s high school work also includes repairs and renovations to the commons, classrooms and science labs in the old wing, and plumbing, electrical and technology infrastructure work.
Busing lanes will shift closer to the stadium and parking will shift closer to 18th Street. While parking will be restricted during the construction, there will eventually be approximately 60 additional parking spots in the newly configured areas.
Baker Field will be resurfaced with artificial turf and expanded to include a football practice field. During construction, expected to be March through August 2017, public access to the walking track will be restricted. When the field reopens, pedestrian gates will allow the community to use the walking track during the day.
The high school will undergo a second phase of construction, scheduled to begin in the summer of 2018.
