YAMHILL COUNTY, McMINNVILLE, OREGON

The Work Session was held May 22, 2023 both in person and via Zoom at the McMinnville School District Office, 800 NE Lafayette Ave., McMinnville, OR 97128

Provisional Minutes-Not Board Approved

At 6:30 p.m. the Board of Directors of McMinnville School District opened the work session meeting.  The meeting was called to order by Chair Carson Benner.  Roll call indicated the following:

Ms. Janis Braich
Mr. Gerardo Partida
Mr. Larry Vollmer
Ms. Abbie Warmbier

BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT:

Debbie Brockett, Superintendent
Cherice Bowden, Board Secretary

AUDIENCE:
Brian Crain, Kourtney Ferrua, Jason Hall, Kevin Carroll, Karina Smith, Doris Towery, Starla Pointer, and Hiran Amerasinghe. 

2023 Graduation Ceremony Overview
Superintendent Brockett presented the graduation ceremony information and additional activities that are taking place at the high school from May 31 through June 9, 2023.  The Graduation Ceremony is June 9, 2023 and starts at 7:00 p.m.  

Year End Events
Year end events were presented to the board.

Subcommittee Reports
Subcommittee reports were given by the board:  

• Fiscal Subcommittee:
  No meeting was held.
• Instructional Improvement Subcommittee:
  Discussed MHS grading initiatives.
• Policy Subcommittee:
  Discussed policy alignment with the State of Oregon FMLA.
• Long Range Planning Subcommittee:
  There will be a meeting Thursday, May 25, 2023. 

Directors Comments
Gerardo Partida congratulated Dr. Amy Fast and thanked her for her work at the high school.  He feels she did a great job.

Janis Braich attended the Outdoor School with the kindergarten’s.  This was their first trip this year.  She is so excited to see the kids and this is the best time of the year.  She stated that the kids were all well behaved and she will continue to support the students in the District.

Abbie Warmbier congratulated Larry Vollmer and Gerardo Partida on their re-election to the board and the new members as well.  She too has seen great behavior in the students and is enjoying all of the end of the year activities.

Larry Vollmer said he was dropping off information at one of the schools and the students saw him and thought he was there to have lunch with them; so they took him to the teacher and asked if he could stay for lunch.  He states that it is neat to connect with kids, and it means something to them too.
