Six McMinnville High School ProStart students, supervised by Culinary Arts Pathway teacher Krista Carpino, traveled to Coos Bay last weekend to compete in the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute (OCCI)’s annual Invitational.
Junior Colin Salewski (center) won first place in the Baking competition with a sweet twist on strawberry shortcake. Colin won a $4,000 in scholarship.
Other competitors included Lizzy Barton, Robert Dunlap, Harper Eacret, Madison Howard and Brent Spangler.
Other students all finished in the top ten in either the Culinary or Baking competitions and earned a $250 tuition waiver to OCCI.
The competition is individual-based and requires students to prepare their version of strawberry shortcake with three dessert accompaniments or a version of chicken cordon bleu with accompaniments. Students have 60 minutes to complete their entries.
Congratulations, students!
