Expanded after-school clubs and enrichment programs launched this fall as part of a recently awarded $2.4 million five-year grant. The first lineup of elementary sessions wraps up Thursday, Dec. 6, and the second lineup begins in January.
The first sessions for middle and high schools run through Thursday, Jan. 30, 2019. The next sessions will begin Monday, Feb. 4, 2019.
All district schools have added to their after-school activities lineup, offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) sessions intended to accelerate student academic growth and improve student engagement. The sessions are designed to align with school day curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Offerings range from LEGO labs, jazz dance, coding clubs and 2-D art sessions. Grant funds allowed the current after-school programs, which mostly focused on academic tutoring sessions, to extend an additional hour with a new range of STEAM offerings.
The new sessions are funded by the Oregon Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, which will run through 2023.
