McMinnville High School junior Colton Nielsen today wrapped up a fundraiser for the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The synagogue was the site of a horrific mass shooting on October 27, 2018.

While some students wrote letters of condolence to Tree of Life congregants, Colton decided to do more.

Every morning for the past few weeks, Colton has set up a coffee, hot chocolate and tea sales station in the lobby of the high school. As of today, the last day before winter break, Colton had raised close to $800, which he will send to the synagogue.

Fundraising initially began to assist with medical bills and counseling for survivors, burial costs for the victims, and repairs to the synagogue. The campaign was later expanded to encompass funding for anti-hate projects that foster collaboration, dialogue and solidarity.

Great job, Colton!
