January is School Board Appreciation Month. Thank you, School Board members Carson Benner, Janis Braich (pictured), Barbara Carter, Paul Haddeland, Gerardo Partida, Tim Roberts and Larry Vollmer for your service and dedication to the McMinnville School District!
Superintendent Maryalice Russell read a formal proclamation into the record and noted that board members serve in a volunteer capacity and devote a considerable amount of time and attention to the well-being of the school district. Click here to read the proclamation.
In what has become a tradition in the district, school principals presented a board member with a selection of books that include the board member’s name inscribed inside. The board members enjoy the books and then donate them to the schools to be shelved in the library.
In other board business, Wascher Elementary students presented a new reading project described as “Windows and Mirrors.” Intended to help students expand and celebrate the different cultures of the world, the project features book selections that highlight experiences that may be unfamiliar to a student (a “window”) or feature stories that might reflect their own life experiences (a “mirror”).
Students are encouraged to engage in reading by seeing themselves and their experiences reflected in stories and to also see the experiences and situations of others.
