Students from Duniway and Patton middle schools wrapped up performances this month with the Oregon Music Educators Association (OMEA) Honor Band and Honor Choir events.
This year’s Honor Band was made up of 90 students from 15 different middle schools representing six different school districts. Students rehearsed for over six hours on Friday, Jan. 18 and another five hours on Saturday, Jan. 19, culminating in a performance Saturday afternoon at West Linn High School.
The following week, approximately 90 students comprising the Honor Choir rehearsed for over six hours on Friday, Jan. 25 and another five hours on Saturday, Jan. 26, finishing up with a Saturday afternoon performance.
“Staying focused for that long while trying to make music with people you’ve never met before is difficult even on the best of days,” said Marc Dana, music director for Duniway. “The students performed beautifully.”
Patton’s music director is Joseph Demianew.
