The McMinnville School District’s elementary Science Experiences program wrapped up a new session this week at Linfield College. The sessions covered principles and forms of light and sound energy, activities aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.
“One of the goals of the Science Experiences program is to expose students to different places in our community,” said Stephanie Legard, director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment in the McMinnville School District.
“Having students visit a college campus is all part of the learning experience,” she said.
The Science Experiences program is a district-wide project to provide enriched opportunities for hands-on learning outside the classroom. Every class in every grade in all elementary schools goes on a field trip to study science in a different venue. Locations include Miller Woods, Metsker Park, Haskins Creek Water Treatment Plant, the Evergreen Museum and Linfield College.
The program is funded in partnership with the McMinnville Education Foundation (MEF).
