This week, the letter below was mailed to all district families (Spanish):
Dear families and stakeholders:
First and most importantly, I hope that you and your family are healthy and safe. As the superintendent of the McMinnville School District, I know that these are unprecedented times. Many of you are being asked to step into unfamiliar roles. I understand the extraordinary pressure you are facing as you balance caring for children, helping them learn, and, in many cases, continuing your own work from home or onsite. Thank you for all you do.
Students will be able to keep their Chromebooks throughout the summer. This will enable them to access an array of good and free educational content and resources being offered online by a variety of organizations and governmental agencies. The district will post these optional resources every week. If you cannot access these resources online, please call the district office at 503.565.4000 to request the resources list be provided through the mail. Chromebooks and other devices loaned to students and families this spring will be collected and/or reissued in the fall depending upon teaching and learning needs. If you prefer to turn in your child’s Chromebook early and not keep it over the summer please notify your child’s principal to make arrangements for device return.
MSD will continue to provide meal service both by pick up at the school and at designated bus stops that have been providing meal delivery all spring.
We have begun a series of parent meetings to discuss the new Oregon Department of Education guidance for opening schools in the fall. The meeting schedule can be found on the MSD web page, parents may also contact their school principal. The MSD website will also be updated regularly for information related to our transition from distance learning. We will provide ongoing communication during the summer regarding our return to school.
June 17 marks the end of school for students this year but not national concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus. Wearing face masks, washing hands, and social distancing remain important ways that we can ensure our community thrives and our students have opportunities to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
