School Board Approves Calendars for the Next Three Years

(Spanish) On Monday night, the McMinnville School Board adopted calendars for the 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.

The calendars were created by a committee of school district staff including district administrators, building principals, teachers, classified staff and representatives from the McMinnville Education Association and the local chapter of the Oregon School Employees Association.

While much of the calendar is driven by contractual agreements with staff, state requirements for instructional days, spring break date alignment with the Oregon University system, and more; staff and families were offered a chance to share feedback on the following:

  •         Number of calendar years to adopt
  •         Number of days off during the year
  •         When to start the school year

The committee recommended that the board adopt the formula of starting school after Labor Day when the holiday falls on Sept. 4 or earlier, and on the last week of August when Labor Day falls on Sept. 5 or later. The committee also recommended that the board adopt calendars three years in advance and, to reduce days off during the year, keep Thanksgiving week as a three-day holiday. These decisions help avoid concerns about having the school year run too late into June.
