The third round of Chromebook pickups for secondary students will take place Thursday, April 9, between 1 – 3 p.m. at the student’s school.
Change: Elementary student families who already preordered will be contacted directly by their school. Elementary student families who may still need a Chromebook, need to contact their child’s school directly.
Please note that students do not need to check out a Chromebook if they have an internet-accessible device at home. Also please note that students may choose the paper packet option instead of the online option.
HOW TO ORDER
Additional requests may be made through an online form here. Parents must include their student’s ID number to check out a Chromebook.
Student ID numbers must be provided to preorder a device checkout and to access materials remotely. (Students use this number at school every time they log into their devices in the classroom.) Student ID numbers are also on student grade reports. If parents don’t have this number, they can also call the district office at 503.565.4000.
Parents will be required to sign a technology agreement form at pickup. To read or print out the form in advance, click here (Spanish). If someone besides a parent/guardian will pick up a student Chromebook, they must have the signed form with the student ID number.
HOTSPOTS
The district has a limited number of hot spots, with more on backorder. The available hot spots will be prioritized for high school senior use and distributed to lower grades as available. Please note that Chromebooks do not need a hot spot if the home has internet access.
INTERNET ACCESS
If a family does not pay for internet access, there are other possibilities. The district is beaconing WiFi from all schools 24/7. The WiFi name is “MSD-afterschool” and no password is required.
Comcast has also launched an initiative to offer free internet during the COVID-19 pandemic. Find out more here and click here to find out how to locate a WiFi hotspot locally.
