While the McMinnville School District encourages school attendance all day, every day, there are times that students should be kept home. Here’s a guide from Health Services about when children should not attend school:

  • Fever (100.5 and greater): May return to school when fever free for 24 hours without the use of medications like Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, etc.
  • Vomiting:  May return to school after 24 hours without vomiting
  • Diarrhea: May return when symptoms free for 24 hours
  • Cough: Students should stay home, if a cough is frequent enough that it is disruptive to the student during the school day. A student may need to see a medical provider if symptoms include a deep barking cough, congestion with colored mucus production, cough with fever, or coughing that causes vomiting.
  • Rash:  Students may return when rash disappears or with a doctor’s note
  • Conjunctivitis: Yellow or brown drainage from eyes or unusual drainage from other parts of the body, such as a draining sore. Student may return to school when discharge is gone or the student must have a written or phone consent from doctor to school nurse.
  • Head lice tip: Check your child often at home for the presence of small insects in the hair and nits near the scalp. Nits adhere to the hair shaft and will not pull off easily.  Report incidences of head lice to the school.

Thank you for keeping our schools a healthy place for students to learn!
