This week, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici visited Newby Elementary to learn about the McMinnville School District (MSD)’s summer meals program.

U.S. Rep. Bonamici visited the district to see the federally funded child nutrition programs in action.

Newby serves approximately 100 meals a day, at both breakfast and lunch, according to MSD Nutrition Director Cindi Hiatt-Henry, who helped arrange the congresswoman’s visit.

“We’re really proud of the meals program we provide to our community,” said Hiatt-Henry. “The congresswoman asked a lot of questions about the challenges we face in child nutrition, and we had a good discussion about the importance of good nutrition for the whole child.”

The McMinnville School District participates in several child nutrition programs, including the summer meal program, which are federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).
