Two students qualify for national competition

Six students from McMinnville High School were recognized in the annual Scholastic Art Showcase at the regional level.

“This is a National juried art competition that had close to 4000 pieces submitted from Oregon,” said MHS ceramics teacher Dan Willis. “There are three awards you can win at the Regional level, and only about 25% of submissions are recognized.”

Two seniors, Benjamin Shingledecker and Amelia Wright, won Gold Key awards, which advances them to the national awards competition later in the spring. Benjamin won the Art Portfolio category, which qualifies him to compete for a $10,000 scholarship in the national competition.
