All incoming kindergartners are invited to participate in a “Transition Camp” at their home school. The camp will kick off this year with a special session for parents in an effort to build strong partnerships for students between home and school.
“We know that inviting new kindergartners to camp begins helps them transition to the school environment,” says Kourtney Ferrua, director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the McMinnville School District.
“We’ve added in a first-day session for parents to offer resources for families that are intended to give students a jump start into their school learning career.”
The parent program is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 19, the first day of Transition Camp, from 9 a.m. until noon at the student’s home school.
Transition Camp runs Monday–Thursday, Aug. 19–22, beginning at 8:30 with breakfast and concluding at 12:30 p.m. after lunch. Both meals are included as part of the camp. Parents provide transportation to and from camp.
