McMinnville High School (MHS) Junior Finn Reuter has been elected to serve a one-year term as on the Executive Board of the Oregon Association of Student Councils (OASC).

Finn delivered a speech in front of 1,500 students from 100 Oregon high school who attended the annual OASC Fall conference this month in Seaside. Also as part of the election process, he presented a workshop on the impact of empathy.

As Northwest Regional Representative, Finn will represent all high schools in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook and Yamhill counties on the Executive Board.

“Finn worked hard to prepare for the conference,” said MHS Leadership adviser Susanne Sayles. “Being on the board means he will speak to the needs of schools in Yamhill and nearby counties to develop leadership curriculum, conferences and other opportunities.

“His position also means that the innovation of our school’s leadership program can be shared on a state level and gives us an opportunity to enhance our programs by sharing ideas with other regions.”

The Oregon Association of Student Councils, founded in 1949 and sponsored by The Confederation of Oregon School Administrators (COSA), serves middle and high school students and advisers from around the state. The 11 youth and 10 adult members provide conferences, workshops, online newsletters and summer leadership camps designed to heighten student leadership development and improve school climate/culture. In the last few years, OASC has also added international service experiences and a Capitol Ambassador.
