Adam
Israel has been working in the pro shop at the Michelbook Country Club
for about a month.  As a recent McMinnville High School (MHS) graduate
who received a Marketing Pathway
endorsement, Israel is getting real-life experience in his chosen field
of study.  “I would definitely recommend the Business Pathway,” he
said.  “There are so many ways you could use it.”

Israel is a case in point. He started out in Culinary Arts because he
wants to open a restaurant someday.  “A family restaurant with homemade
pizza and homemade pasta,” he said, noting that his market research
showed that McMinnville has a lot of fast food and upscale restaurants,
“but not a lot in between.”

Realizing that he would need more than cooking skills to run a
successful restaurant, Israel added the Business Pathway and focused on
marketing.  He combined his marketing and culinary training by working
in the MHS Action Corner, the school-based store that features food
service and apparel.

Israel often worked making smoothies for student customers, mixing
food service with customer service skills.  In his summer job at Michelbook,
he deals with customers by booking tee times, cleaning clubs, fielding
phone queries and assisting members.  “Working in the Action Corner
definitely helped me learn customer service,” he said.  “That’s a lot of
what I do here.”
