The City of McMinnville announced winners of its “If I were Mayor” student arts contest with students from Newby and Patton earning top honors.
- Newby Elementary School fourth grader Lillian Goodman (left) won the elementary division with a poster illustrating her goals (see below). Lillian will receive a mayor-hosted pizza party for her classroom, including swag bags from the city for the whole class.
- Patton Middle School sixth grader Gisele Martin took home the top prize for middle school and will be honored at the State of the City address and Community Fair on Thursday, May 30 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Civic Plaza. In her essay, she wrote, “The first thing I would do if I were mayor would be to save the environment and improve air quality. One thing I would do to save the environment would be to host a tree planting event.” Gisele will also receive a City of McMinnville sweatshirt, downtown bucks and lunch with the mayor.
Both girls will be entered into the statewide contest for a chance to win $500.
