The McMinnville High School (MHS) FFA team attended the Lower Willamette District (LWD) Leadership event  and competed in the advanced parliamentary procedure (parli-pro) contest, and junior McKenna West participated in the advanced public speaking contest.

“All kids were pretty stoked at how well they performed, since a majority of them had never participated in this event,” said FFA adviser and MHS teacher Kerry Naylor.  “I was incredibly proud of their accomplishment.”

In the parli-pro contest, students must learn and debate 20 agricultural or FFA current events using parliamentary procedure.  For the public speaking event, competitors were required to write an eight-minute speech and attempt to recite it verbatim.  Students are then questioned on the selected topics by the judges.

On a separate day, McKenna also participated in the LWD FFA Advanced Extemporaneous Public Speaking contest.  The contest involved drawing an agricultural current event topic out of a hat, creating a six-minute speech, and answering questions from the judges.  She placed third in the LWD FFA district.
