McMinnville High School (MHS) senior Michael Martinoff won the regional English-Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition at Lewis and Clark College in Portland over the weekend. He is the third straight winner from MHS.
A student of MHS drama teacher Bethany Mason, Michael was also tutored by local acting coach Judith Miller (pictured).
As the regional winner, Michael won a trip to New York City to compete in the national contest at Lincoln Center this coming April.
The performance-based competition features students reading, analyzing, performing and reciting Shakespearean monologues and sonnets. Approximately 2,500 teachers and 20,000 students in nearly 60 ESU Branch communities participate each year.
