Congratulations to McMinnville High School’s (MHS) Kelly Carlson, who was named 2017 Young Educator of the Year as part of the McMinnville Distinguished Service Awards. Carlson’s award kicks off the celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week in the McMinnville School District.

Educators are nominated for the Distinguished Service Award by peers for their contribution to school and district, excellence in teaching, leadership, volunteer efforts and other accomplishments.

“Kelly has been a leader of both students and staff through her work as a lab class teacher this year and with both our Social Studies and accelerated departments at MHS,” said principal Tony Vicknair. “Anyone who has been fortunate enough to observe Kelly in action inevitably leaves her classroom in awe commenting on the joy with which she teaches, the relationships she’s developed with students, the sense of urgency she exudes, and the high expectations she fosters.”

Carlson will be honored at the 62nd Annual Distinguished Service Awards banquet on May 1, beginning at 6 p.m.
