A new afterschool club will launch next week at both middle schools. Linfield band director Seth Wollam, who joined the college last year to launch the school’s first marching band since before World War II, will oversee the new mariachi club, funded by grants from the Rutherford family and the Chehalem Cultural Center.

The sessions, scheduled for Wednesdays at Patton and Thursdays at Duniway, will feature violins, guitars, trumpets, vihuelas and guitarrons purchased with the grant funds.

“This is a great addition to our afterschool lineups,” said Margie Johnson, district administrator of Program Development and Improvement. “For students at both schools to have access to these beautiful instruments in a new musical partnership with Linfield is an exciting learning opportunity for our students.”

Patton has other new offerings including a session on NASA and a Spanish club, along with offerings in art, dance, chess and others. Click here to see the full listing.

Duniway has Makerspace, various robotics and video game design, fitness and sports and other offerings. Click here for the schedule.
