Wednesday schedules to shift by an hour

McMinnville School District plans to modify school schedules for the 2022-23 school year.  Beginning next fall, the district will embed an hour each Wednesday for professional learning community work. This change is intended to move students forward academically and deal with the increased need for social-emotional learning.

One of the reasons McMinnville School District has outstanding schools is because we have high-quality staff. Having well-trained staff that is working together, sharing the same student measurement tools, and collaborating on teaching strategies is an efficient and effective way to improve student learning. This schedule shift will allow district staff to have time to coordinate and collaborate with each other as subject/grade level teams.

The plan is for elementary students to be dismissed an hour early each Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and begin every day at the usual time of 8 a.m. Middle and high school students will have a later start time. Middle school students will start class at 9:20 a.m. on Wednesdays and high school students will begin at 9:30 a.m. Middle school will end every day at its usual time of 3:15 p.m., and high school will conclude every day at 3:25 p.m.

This schedule shift still exceeds the state requirements for student time in the classroom. We realize these changes may cause other challenges for some families, so if you have thoughts or concerns, please share them via ThoughtExchange, and we will do our best to address any issues. If this schedule would benefit your students, we’d like to know that as well.
