New three-week class to begin Aug. 29
McMinnville School District has added another session of a free, three-week program to become a heavy equipment operator. In partnership with the Baker Technical Institute, the program will be offered in McMinnville from Aug. 29 – Sept. 16. The class is offered to recent McMinnville High School graduates.
The class will run Mondays – Fridays on the following schedule:
Mondays, noon-4 p.m. (no class on Labor Day, Sept. 5)
Tuesdays, Wednesdays,Thursdays, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Fridays, 8 a.m. – noon
The first two weeks of the class will be held in the MSD building on 19th Street (between Baker and Evans streets). The final week will be at the filbert orchard adjacent to Grandhaven Elementary (3200 NE MacDonald Lane).
The program combines learning via state-of-the-art simulators combined with seat time on real equipment at a job site to allow new operators to train on machine operation, gain application knowledge, and develop skills in a controlled and safe environment.
By completing the training, students will earn certification and receive help with finding a job in the field.
