Today, the McMinnville School District participated in the Great Oregon ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake drill for emergency preparedness.
Every school in the district practiced the recommended action of “Drop, Cover, and Hold On!” beginning at 10:20 a.m.
“It’s important to practice disaster response as a regular part of district routines,” said Dr. Maryalice Russell, superintendent of McMinnville School District. “Participating in this statewide event helps raise awareness both in our schools and throughout the community.
“We encourage families to practice earthquake drills at home and to put a family emergency plan in place,” she said.
The district participates regularly in fire and earthquake drills, including coordinated drills like the Great ShakeOut and last June’s Cascadia Rising.
