Marci Ingram, McMinnville School District’s homeless liaison and dropout prevention specialist, and Kelly Janssen, counselor at Grandhaven Elementary, teamed up to participate in the annual KGW School Supply Drive.

“We participated in the drive in years past,” said Ingram. “Last spring, they called and asked if we would be willing to appear in a spot promoting the event this year.”

Just after school let out in June, Ingram and Janssen traveled to Portland for the production of the public service announcement, which was filmed at Lincoln High School.

After producers saw the PSA footage, they called and invited Ingram and Janssen to appear on KGW’s afternoon show, “Portland Today.”  The two were interviewed on the hour-long show hosted by Tracy Barry.

On the show that aired today, Thursday, August 2, Ingram and Janssen talked about how providing school supplies for students who don’t have them improves the school  environment and helps the students better engage with their learning

The collected supplies are delivered to school districts that participate in the drive and are available to students who need them through their neighborhood school’s office. For more information on how to donate or otherwise participate, click here.

Another way to help get school supplies to local students is Beyond Backpacks. For more information about that event, click here or here.
