On Monday, March 30, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) provided updated guidance for schools.
As we continue Governor Brown’s “Stay Home, Save Lives” order, ODE is advising school districts to plan for an extended school closure period.
Beginning April 13, students will participate in “Distance Learning,” with teachers and students teaching and learning in different locations.
This week, the McMinnville School District is rolling out a supplemental learning plan for families, beginning today, Wednesday, April 1, as a “soft start” for the mid-April “Distance Learning for All.”
Over the next several days families and teachers will connect in order for the teacher to know which learning format (for example, online or packet form) will best meet each student’s need while learning in a location different from their teacher.
The district has been checking out Chromebooks for students to use in online learning. Please note that students do not need to check out a Chromebook if they have an Internet-accessible device at home, and Chromebooks do not need a hot spot if the home has Internet access.
Also, please be aware that direct calls made from teachers to households may show up as “no caller ID” or another indicator phrase that does not provide the caller’s number (teachers will be making contact using various systems given they will not be working from their classrooms but from their homes). Parents may initiate or return calls to their teacher’s phone extension which is forwarded to the teacher via their emails.
