
Students entering the sixth through ninth grades are invited to attend summer seminars on Career/Technical Education (CTE) this summer beginning June 25. The free sessions include hands-on activities and will be held in McMinnville High School’s new Career Technical Center, which was just opened in the Fall of 2017.
Sessions include:
Using UAVs and GPS for Engineering Surveying (8th/9th grade only) – Students will learn surveying within the construction trades and have practice flying multiple UAV platforms for surveying. (June 25 – 28)
Tiny Homes for Chickens – Students will work together to construct an A-frame chicken tractor, a “tiny home for chickens.” (June 25 – 28)
Don’t be Board this Summer: Make a Box, Clipboard, and Cutting Board – Students will build a box, clipboard, and cutting board. We will also have the opportunity to observe a real construction site. (July 16 – 19)
Make it Out of Metal (6th/7th graders only*) – Students will create and personalize their own sheet metal projects, using hand tools and hand-held power tools to cut, shape, and finish their designs. (July 16 – 19)
Tiny Libraries – Students will work together to construct a Tiny Library for use in our community using plywood, fasteners, hardware, and roofing materials. (July 23 – 26)
Make it Out of Metal (8th/9th graders only*) – Students will create and personalize their own sheet metal projects. (July 30 – August 3)
Ceramics Workshop (8th/9th graders only) – Students will design and create two ceramic projects, including rake fired ceramic table lamps and mosaic trays made from hand glazed ceramic tiles. (July 30 – August 3)
Ceramics Workshop (6th/7th graders only) – Students will design and create two ceramic projects, including rake fired ceramic table lamps and mosaic trays made from hand glazed ceramic tiles. (August 6 – 10)
Each session runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and includes a sack lunch. Bus transportation will be provided from Duniway Middle School and Wascher Elementary. Enrollment is limited, and registrations are due Friday, June 1 to student’s home school. The program is made possible by an Oregon Department of Education CTE Revitalization grant.
