Dear McMinnville School District Community,
(Spanish) In McMinnville School District, our mission is to honor, empower and prepare each individual to thrive and contribute. These beliefs anchor us in creating safe school environments where all of our students feel a sense of belonging. Recent federal changes to immigration policy have raised questions about our school district’s response. We recognize the fear and uncertainty that these circumstances can create, even with legal protections in place.
It is our value and legal responsibility that we serve all students, no matter their place of birth or personal circumstances. This is consistent with federal law, state law, and district policies. For this reason, we do not collect information about the immigration status of our students. Both our non-discrimination and anti-bullying policies specifically recognize national origin as a protected class.
We remain under Oregon Sanctuary Promise laws, which identify schools as protected areas from immigration enforcement and prohibit schools and school buses from involvement in federal immigration law enforcement. On the rare occasion that a judicial order was issued, this would be handled at the district office level to be verified with our legal practices.
We are currently implementing the following:
Proactively, we encourage all families to prepare for emergencies and unexpected circumstances that may occur. One important action is to ensure that your child’s school has updated information on how to contact you and a current list of emergency contacts and to ensure you are receiving ParentSquare communications.
The McMinnville School District is grounded in our commitment to the fundamental right of our students to learn in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. Thank you in advance for helping to make our school community strong.
Sincerely,
Dr. Debbie Brockett, superintendent
