February 4, 2023 Mid-Year Board Retreat Minutes

MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF DISTRICT NO. 40,
YAMHILL COUNTY, McMINNVILLE, OREGON

The Board of Directors of McMinnville School District met for a Mid-Year Board Retreat Session on February 4, 2023,
in the District Office located at 800 NE Lafayette Ave., McMinnville, Oregon.

• At 9:00 a.m. the Board of Directors of McMinnville School District opened the Mid-Year Board Retreat meeting.  Roll call indicated the following:

  Chair Carson Benner
  Vice-Chair Dr. Paul Haddeland
  Mr. Jason Bizon
  Ms. Janis Braich
  Mr. Gerardo Partida
  Mr. Larry Vollmer
  Ms. Abbie Warmbier

  BOARD MEMBER ABSENT

  ADMINISTRATION:
  Ms. Debbie Brockett, Superintendent
  Cherice Bowden, Board Secretary

  DISTRICT OFFICE DIRECTORS
  Kourtney Ferrua, Steffanie Frost, Brian Crain, Kevin Carroll, Hiran Amarasinghe, Karina Smith, and Samantha Nelson.

  Superintendent Brockett asked everyone to share some things they were excited about.  After each person shared what they were excited about,  she then gave an overview of the agenda.  

  Topics discussed included:

  • Overview of Listening Session
  • Director Reports
  • Strategic Plan (First Steps)
  • Core Values

  Kourtney Ferrua, Steffanie Frost, Brian Crain, Kevin Carroll, Hiran Amarasinghe, and Karina Smith each shared a presentation of themes from staff, students, parents, and community voices from the Listening Sessions.  Each Director shared their Target Goals for their department as part of the Strategic Plan.  Superintendent Brockett shared a presentation on Pillars for the Strategic Plan and the Core Values that MSD believes in (see attached).

  Superintendent Brockett complimented her staff, thanked them, and stated how amazing they are.

  Election information was distributed to each board member with timelines and forms needed to run for the election/reelection.  The tentative date was discussed and set for the Summer Board Retreat.

  The meeting was adjourned at 2:50 p.m.
