Secondary girls traveled to Hillsboro today to present their STEM projects to their Saleforce mentors and other staff.
The projects are part of a school-year mentoring project that launched last year to encourage independent learning and critical thinking skills that are critical to 21st century job skills.
The middle and high school girls completed the year-long program that featured collaborative mentoring from Salesforce employees. The girls met virtually and in person with their mentors and worked on STEM projects that ranged from coding an emergency contact button, building a popup tent designed as a backpack, creating a hydroponic greenhouse and a green GPS tracking collar.
“This project is not just about the science and technology,” said Andrea Brown, MHS science teacher and project coordinator. “The partnership is also meant to help the students learn skills like collaborative teamwork and problem-solving.
“The interaction with industry mentors is intended to expose them to a specific work environment and help them connect what they’re learning to the real world.”
