The McMinnville School District is launching an enrichment program, “Summer Explorations,” to help students stay engaged throughout the vacation weeks.
Each week through August 24, a different themed activity will be offered for four different grade levels: kindergarten through second grade; grades three through five, middle school, and high school.
The weekly offerings will be posted on the district’s Facebook page (“Like” us to get the weekly posts in your newsfeed) and on the Summer Explorations website.
Each Monday, the K – 2nd grade actvities will post; on Tuesday, grades 3 – 5; Wednesday, middle school; Thursday, high school. Activities include “staycations,” virtual field trips, games, reading suggestions and more to keep kids’ minds busy over summer.
“We encourage families to take part in these activities to keep children learning,” said Kourtney Ferrua, director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. “Preventing the ‘summer slide’ may be even more critical this summer after the disrupted schedule of the state-wide school closure. The activities are designed to spark students’ curiosity and bring them back to school in the fall ready to learn.”
Students are intended to use their checked-out Chromebooks or home devices to access these enrichment activities. Families who do not have internet access may request weekly paper packets by calling 503.565.4000.
