Over 100 middle school students attended the tenth annual McMinnville School District’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) camp this week.

“The boat-building session requires the students to design build a craft out of cardboard and keep it afloat for three minutes,” said Andrea Brown, director of the camp.

“The first group found that it wasn’t easy making their boats waterproof,” she said.  “There was a lot of last-minute plugging of holes with fingers and other strategies.”

Other sessions included projects on Computer Art & Game Design, 3D printing, astronomy, global positioning systems (GPS) and engineering.

Besides Brown, other teachers working with the camp this week include Dave Larson, Suzanne Jensen, Taghrid Elmeligui, Michele Brantner and Pam Chambers.
