This month, McMinnville Schools will take part in the Great Oregon ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake drill for emergency preparedness. The Shakeout is a planned event that helps students and staff learn what to do before, during and after an earthquake.

Every school in the district will participate in the event, practicing the recommended “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” and then evacuating the building.

Before the drill, teachers explain the protocol of Drop, Cover, and Hold On, which is intended to protect the head, neck and chest by taking cover.

The district participates regularly in fire and earthquake drills, including coordinated drills like the Great Oregon ShakeOut, which was created to help organizations and families prepare for the impending megaquake.
