In late afternoon on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, a vehicle accident occurred involving a school bus on Highway 18. The bus was carrying students home from Buel’s after-school programs.

All Buel students and the bus driver were uninjured.  A second bus arrived to pick up the students to return the students to Buel upon release by highway state patrol and emergency medical services, who were on the scene.  The driver and passengers of one of the other vehicles involved sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital.

All parents, or emergency contacts listed on the child’s registration form, of those students on the bus were called. A reunification process was activated at Buel for parents to pick up their children. That process includes parents bringing ID and signing children out.

District and school staff were onsite at Buel Elementary to support students while waiting to be reunified with their parents.  All students were accounted for and returned safely to their parents and guardians. State police continue to investigate the accident and will release information upon completion of the investigation.

Today, students who were involved were invited to speak with school counseling staff to address any feelings about the incident.
