McMinnville High School (MHS) principal Tony Vicknair introduced students and ceramics teacher Dan Willis to talk about the Visual Arts pathway at last night’s meeting of the McMinnville School Board.

Students Sydney Hayward and Aidan Hamel, along with Willis, demonstrated how pottery is created on a potter’s wheel.

Hayward brought a large pot she plans to include in her senior portfolio and explained the Raku firing process that gives the pot its unique coloring.

Hamel talked about the intersection of art and science in pottery and how he’s learning to find his own technique in the process.

Vicknair talked about observing some of the ceramics classes and how students learned many soft skills, like perseverance, during the artistic process.

Willis invited the board and meeting attendees to visit the annual Art Sale, on Thursday, December 15, in the MHS library, which will take place in conjunction with the Winter Choir concerts, which will begin at 6:30 and 8 p.m.  The sale will include both 2D and 3D work on display and for sale.
