Memorial Elementary School won the McMinnville Public Library YAMMY award for the seventh consecutive year.

Each summer, the Library has a reading contest involving
approximately 18 schools throughout Yamhill County. Students log their
reading times and turn these into the McMinnville Public Library
throughout the summer.

Memorial had more than 60 students participate from Kindergarten
through fifth grade. We believe there is a direct correlation between
how many students participate in Summer Reading with how many classes
from that school come to the library for a visit in the spring.

For the past eight years Memorial has brought all classes to the
library for a visit. Memorial teaching staff made sure that all of the
students from Memorial received a summer reading log when they visited
last Spring.

Memorial had almost twice as many students finish this year than any
other school. There was a 15 percent  increase in the number of students
who finished this year compared to last year.
