Music, games, dance, video games, metalworking and more

(Spanish) Current 5th, 6th and 7th grade students are invited to register for a free summer camp during the first two weeks of August. Lunch and transportation to Duniway will be provided for bus-eligible students.

Two sessions of the camps will run Monday – Friday during the weeks of July 31 – August 4 and August 7 – 11 from 9 a.m. until 12:15.

Students can choose from a slate of offerings including

  • Reading Outside the Book

    Five days of library and book-related activities including book tastings, book-themed days, games, poetry, book checkouts, and more!

  • Make it Out of Metal

    Introduction to metalworking processes to make a variety of small projects. During the four-day program students will have the opportunity to use multiple measuring tools, hand tools, power tools. and some welding equipment. The program will also teach students about possible careers in the manufacturing industry, engineering, and fabrication industries.

  • Writing Retreat

    Spend the week learning how to think, work, and be a writer. This will provide you a chance to explore creative writing with support to take your ideas from your brain to paper!

  • Summer Recreational Games

    From golf to corn hole, we’ll explore some outdoor games that are perfect for our Oregon summer weather!

  • Intro to Guitar

    Learn to play guitar! We will review the basics of technique, guitar care and maintenance, and the reading of chord charts and tablature. We’ll also take some time to discuss and enjoy the fascinating history of the guitar and its place in musical culture. Whether it’s learning to play that song you love or writing your own songs, this is the place to start.

  • Dance

    No experience required! All levels welcome! During our week together we will explore many styles of dance, stretch, and learn a dance routine! Please wear comfortable clothing (leggings, bike shorts, t-shirt, etc.) and socks, and bring a water bottle (if you have dance shoes feel free to bring them, but they are not required).

  • Video Game Design ++

    Come join us for an exciting week designing video games using JavaScript! Students will be creating 2D platformer games, similar in style to the original Super Mario Bros. Students will also be able to choose from a variety of extra features, in the form of self-paced add-on modules to enhance their game, after the initial setup and design portion.

  • Art Adventure

    Create artwork inspired by the environment and people around you, using watercolor and tempera paints, and printmaking techniques.

  • An Introduction to Spanish Language and Culture

    Come spend a week learning about the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. No previous knowledge of Spanish is needed for this introductory class on language and culture.
