Replacement for Retiring Director Shelly Simonyi Selected

We are pleased to share that Kellie Clay has been selected as the McMinnville School District’s next Director of Student Services. Kellie will officially join the district on July 1, 2026.

Ms. Clay brings extensive experience in special services leadership, most recently serving as Executive Director of Special Services for Battle Ground Public Schools. Throughout her career, she has led districtwide systems supporting students receiving special education and 504 services, with a strong focus on inclusive practices, compliance, and student-centered outcomes. She is known for building collaborative teams, strengthening service delivery systems, and supporting both students and staff through thoughtful, strategic leadership.

“We are excited to welcome Kellie to McMinnville,” said Dr. Kourtney Ferrua, McMinnville School District Superintendent. “She brings a deep understanding of student services, along with a clear commitment to inclusive practices and strong systems of support for students. What stood out most during the selection process was her ability to build trust with teams and keep student needs at the center of every decision. I’m confident she will be a strong addition to our district and a thoughtful leader for our students, staff, and families.”

“I’m excited to join McMinnville and be part of a district that values students and community,” said Ms. Clay. “I look forward to partnering with staff and families to build on the great work already happening and continue strengthening systems that support every learner.”

While we are excited to welcome Kellie this summer, we also recognize that this transition comes at an important time for our district. Our current Director of Student Services, Shelly Simonyi, will retire on May 8 after years of dedicated service to McMinnville students, families, and staff. We are deeply grateful for Shelly’s leadership, advocacy, and lasting impact on our school community.

To support a smooth and thoughtful transition, Dr. Kendra Coates will serve as a temporary Student Services Coordinator from May through the end of June. Kendra brings a strong background in student services and will help ensure continuity of support for students, families, and staff during this interim period.

We are confident that this transition plan will allow us to both honor Shelly’s contributions and set Kellie up for a strong start in July. Please join us in thanking Shelly for her service, welcoming Kendra in her temporary role, and looking ahead to Kellie’s leadership in the months ahead.
