Keeping our Kids Healthy & Safe

(Spanish) McMinnville School District hosted a Wellness Summit for district families on March 5, 2025.  The resources below were collected in response to a  ThoughtExchange that asked families what issues they were interested in hearing about at the summit.   In addition to the topic specific resources below, here is a list of local resources that can help with a wide range of health and wellness issues.

Panelists/organizations at the summit included:

  • Healthy Kids in the Technology Age

The mass migration of childhood into the virtual world has disrupted social and neurological development. This disruption includes social anxiety, sleep deprivation, attention fragmentation and addiction. Alarmed by the rates of anxiety and depression in adolescents, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt wrote The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness. The book explores these growing phenomena and offers ideas to change course.

The goal of the Raising Resilience project is to facilitate community conversations and actions to raise healthy kids in the technology age.  Linfield professor Dr. Jennifer Linder presents an overview of the trends and wisdom from research on technology and its influence on kids.
