Calendars for 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years
(Spanish) On Monday night, the McMinnville School Board adopted calendars for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.
The calendars were created by a committee of school district staff including district administrators, building principals, teachers, classified staff and representatives from the McMinnville Education Association and the local chapter of the Oregon School Employees Association.
All staff and families were also given the opportunity to provide input via a ThoughtExchange (Spanish).
Highlights include the following:
- School will start on August 28, 2023. The decision to begin school before Labor Day is primarily because the district would like to align our academic calendar with other districts with which we share athletic schedules and extracurricular activities, but it’s also to avoid potential conflicts with the newly adopted federal holiday of Juneteenth (June 19).
- Thanksgiving will not be a full week off, but the Wednesday of that week will be added to the holiday days.
- Feedback from the ThoughtExchange prompted the committee to recommend moving spring conferences from May to March. This shift will allow more time for families to use teacher feedback to support their students’ progress before the end of the school year.
- Winter Break is scheduled to align with districts in our area.
